Megan, the one responsible for my addiction to everything greek.
and the one who introduced me to Oia, Santorini, Athens and all the loveliness of the Mediterranean sea.

She is a painter,
Her abstract use of color or in this case black and white is amplified by her use of texture and her interpretation of the canvas.
She often write secrets behind her paintings, with words so slick and ripe that you tend to lose your speech.
We did a photoshoot in front of her last series at the biggining of the year and these are her most recent pieces ;

Slim Mass.

February 23, 2009 § Leave a comment

I have lost all capacity to move,
Its Monday morning, and I’m watching Paid Programming on television.
Saturday night was the closer you’ll ever come to eternal bliss, for the first part.
But also one of the best shows I’ve seen in while – although I always say that.

Sunday joints and Diazepam, in a bathtub with candles, binge.
Lets recapitulate.

And I’m so mad at myself for upseating the settings of my camera and not being able to share the visual of the whole evening,
But basically all you need to know is that Slim Twig on stage is like  a Mick Jagger without the golden/silver/leather pants, and with a tie.
Psychedelic layers, his voice resonating, reciting, signing, screaming.
His eyes swaying away from the public into his own little world of rockabilly deep resonance.
The Man is not a boy, mysterious detached and cold. He would say anything and I would melt all the same.
there you go.

AND the set was fallowed by THE CREEPING NOBODIES
Beautiful girl, with high rise jeans and red little shoes with socks,
same cold expression, and a voice that trembles away into the distortion.

FINALLY the Montreal Based music “collective/band”  RED MASS
A FUCKIN RIOT ON STAGE.
trashy grungy distortion, a girl with 5 boys, all dressed in red, she had ripped stockings and a dress.
She screamed in that microphone behind her black curly hair and sometimes preferred the flute.
A guy in a skirt on one side, an other with a cape in the middle and my personal favorite with a jean ripped sleeveless jacket and a mohawk screaming away like I always imagined Sid Vicious would have.

Its can be the apocalypse outside for all I care, I witnessed what my heaven looks like.
And I’m linking both these tracks so you can get a tiny little glimpse of what it sounds like as well.

The Beer

February 21, 2009 § Leave a comment

The beer i had for breakfast was a bottle of mad dog
and my 20/20 vision was fifty percent off
you said punch-buggy red and punched me right in my left eye
i said don’t you mean pediddle? and i lit his house on fire
he came home on acid i was holding his shotgun
i was dressed like Tina turner in beyond thunder dome
he said don’t shoot, i said i won’t i love you you’re my friend
i handed him my wig and shot myself in the head
then i stuffed a box of tissues in the hole in my skull
i got in my Mazda and i drove to the mall
i got a big Johnson shirt and some silicone tits
when i pulled out the tissues they were covered with shit
and the beer i had for breakfast was a box of cheap white wine
and the boom box on my shoulder was a box of clementines
i ate every single one without noticing the mold
you said you’re gross my darling, i said no i’m rock and roll
even though i’d never ever been in a band
i got cool as black ice tattooed on my hand
and the Christians gave me comic books as if i would be scared
of burning in hell well i was already there
and the beer i had for breakfast silver bullet in the brain
and the beer i had for lunch was a bottle of night train
and the beer i had for dinner was my crazy neighbor’s pills
we had to sit down on skateboards jut to make it down the hill
then i peed my pants and you stole the groom’s cigar
and some old man made me watch him masturbate locked in his car
when i got back to the apartment you were face down on the floor
you said don’t go to bed yet let’s go get a 64
and the beer i had had for breakfast was a pint of Jim beam
and a fifth of peach schnapps and some warm sunny d
and you said bottoms up just as i bottomed out
i tried to scream fuck you but blood was pouring out my mouth
Evan Dando never planned on telling you the truth
and your Leonardo i.d. card is your fountain of youth
you can be a teenager for your whole fucking life
just find some pretty sucker and make that bitch your wife
i guess by now you all know my friends Danny broke his neck
he was driving home from sirens when he got into a wreck
first i cried for him and then i cried for me
haunted by the ghost of the girl i used to be
but the rocks with holes are warm in my hands
and i buried my toes in the hot hot sand
and the silver pink pony kisses me and says
you’ve come a long, long way and you deserve to be really happy…

Fan Death @ Lambi

Hey, I saw Fan Death the other day @ club Lambi. I must say their set was awfully short but still  managed to do quite well for a relatively new band. The best part of the show was near the end, people were finally dancing and really getting in to it but then they stopped because I guess they ran out of songs to play…  Still they played all their singles including the outstanding Veronica’s Veils that first made me discovered the Vancouver duo last summer. I randomly assumed they were from Greece, then found out their promo shots were taken in Mexico. Anyway, here’s the  song that really made it for me when I first heard of them, I’ve  played Veronica’s Veil  quite a few times last fall, some of you may recognize it.  Erol Alkan also did his version but I like the original better.

I’ve been a big supporter of The Room 22 since the beginning, and I’m very please to be it’s newest member. Here’s a little something that I enjoy, not only is it a great song but the video is fantastic as well.

Mucho amor,

Linny.
